This is the main gate of Heian Jingu, or Heian Shrine. Constructed in 1895 the shine was built to commemorate the 1,100 anniversary of the move to Heian-kyo (Kyoto) by Emperor Kammu. Kyoto remained the capital of Japan until the Meiji Revolution when the Emperor moved the court to Tokyo. This is the ending point of the Jidai Matsuri.  Posted by Hello
